Superb Antique 9ct Rose Gold Foliate Decorated & Sterling Silver Dimpled Sewing Thimble circa 1900 This Superb Antique Sewing Thimble measures approximately 1 inch or 25 mm tall by 3/4 of an inch or 19 mm across the outer width or diameter of the base and the internal finger opening is 5/8 of an inch or 16 mm in diameter, the rose gold band it 3/8 of an inch or 9 mm tall from the base of the thimble to the top edge of the band. The thimble is made from a sterling silver body in a typical circular tapering shape with a domed top and it has a wonderful .375 standard 9ct or 9 carat rose gold engraved and raised relief scrolled foliate decorated band around its lower body, the thimble has a dimpled honey comb like decorated silver body and there is a shaped cartouche within the decoration of the rose gold band that has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram, the inner body of the thimble has been impressed with a full set of English sterling silver hallmarks that are now indistinct from wear due to their location and the rose gold band has a 9 .375 standard 9ct gold mark all as photographed below, I estimate that this sewing thimble was made circa 1890 to 1910 . The condition is used and near Mint for its age. The Thimble has No Holes, No Dents, No Splits, No Cracks and No Repairs that I can find, the thimble is straight, the decoration is very crisp, the silver hallmark as I have already mentioned is very worn due to its location and the 9 gold mark is still clearly legible although as the sewing thimble is a used antique it does have some extremely minor surface wear from use along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this antique sewing thimble could still be used today and that it would make a superb addition to any collection, I also think that it looks absolutely fantastic considering that it's around 110 or so years old.
