SUPERB ANTIQUE GOLD HARDSTONE CAMEO THORVALDSEN'S NIGHT A superb antique agate hardstone cameo; beautifully hand carved to depict Thorvaldsen's 'Night' (the goddess Nyx) with wonderfully fine detail throughout; in a high quality solid 15 or 18 carat gold mount, for wear as a pin. Wow - very high quality, striking and deeply beautiful - immensely wearable, and very collectable indeed! CONDITION : All original and very, very good. Slight signs of wear to mount, no damage. Lines visible in the backlit picture are natural inclusions in the rock and are both inconsequential and 99% invisible when not backlit. DEFECTS : None. DATE/MARKS : Around 1870, or older. Not marked. DIMENSIONS : 37 x 29 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter. WEIGHT : Approx. 11.1 grams. our other auctions.
