Here on offer is a superb antique RoyalDoulton drunken monks tobacco jar dating to between 1891 and 1902. The tobacco jar has a classic salt glaze with white figures of monks, having the figures applied to the surface and framed with tube lining . The stoneware body has clear salt glaze and a rich dark bitter chocolate coloured glaze. The jar has tube lined elliptical frames to the white figures. Between the figures is a stylised foliate design accented by tube lining around the dark glaze. The figures depict monks in shallow relief, in various states of drunkeness. The lid has a the dark brown glaze and a stylised floral design in relief. The body of the tobacco jar has been made from stoneware. The tobacco jar is, unusually, in near mint condition as these wares are prone to damage. The base has the impressed mark for Royal Doulton stoneware that was used from 1891 to 1902. It has a numerical code for the design embossed on the base. The base also has embossed and incised marks for the artist Emma Burrows. This tobacco jar is being offered in excellent antique condition. It measures about 15cm tall and 12cm in diameter, it weighs 744g.
