Superb Late Victorian Sterling Silver Pyramid Shape Gentleman's Table Cigar Lighter dated 1901 This Antique Table Cigar Lighter measures approximately 3 inches or 77 mm in length from the handle to the lower front of its body by 2 1/4 inches or 58 mm across the width and length of its square base and it stands 2 1/4 inches or 57 mm tall to the top of its handle. The table lighter is made from 88.9 grams of sterling silver in a square pyramid like shape with a scrolled handle and the lighter stands on a flat square base, the table lighter has a removable sterling silver screw down wick holder on the top of its body and this lighter would have been filled with a paraffin like liquid, it would have been left on a table with the wick permanently alight for use by Victorian and Edwardian gentlemen to light their after diner cigars. This table lighter has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram and it has been impressed with a full set of English sterling silver hallmarks that read as follows, W H & Ss Ld - Crown - Lion Passant - stylized i W H & Ss Ld is the Sheffield silversmith or makers mark of William Hutton & Sons Ltd, the Crown is the mark of the Sheffield assay office, the Lion Passant is the mark of English 925 standard sterling silver and the stylized letter i is the date letter for 1901.
