After doing some extensive research on this lovely bowl, it occurred to me that I have been labeling it as a Master Berry bowl when in reality, it is fruit bowl. The difference being that the fruit or orange bowls have three scroll feet and measure 10 to 11 inches. The berry sets are made from their own unique mold and four footed. This gorgeous carnival glass bowl comes to me from the estate of (of all places) a little antique dealer with a small shop in Bardstown, Kentucky. T's a small sticker on the bottom that was t when I bought it so I just left it on. I'm sure it's what he had it priced at when he had it in his shop. It's marked $775.00 and has "rare" written on it and that's the way the auctioneer auctioned it off. D. Doty's website offers a wealth of information on carnival glass. The information I'm providing was taken from his site. This stunning bowl has very intense color. T are 6 raised trees on the outside and only three raised trees inside. The trunks do not extend into the band of raised daisies. "A rare variation of the bowls has a daisy pattern in the center band rather than the alternating basketweave and floral design" (D. Doty). Such is the case with this bowl. I can't fault this beautiful piece anyw other than it does have a wheat line (or straw line) on the inside bottom that's probably about 2" which I believe is factory in origin. All my carnival glass friends tell me that this is a fairly common occurrence in carnival glass. What an exquisite acquisition this would make for those who collect antique carnival glass. The Fenton Company turns 100 years old this year.
