Up for auction is an extremely beautiful flask with superbly painted doucai decoration from the Qianlong period. The flask has a well-proportioned flat double-gourd shape with two stylized handles. Each side of the exterior is decorated with two downward striding archaic dragons facing each other surrounding a stylized "Shou, or Longevity" roundel. The dragons' tails and fins are depicted with innovative flame motif. the external side of each handle is decorated with florets and scroll reserved in enameled yellow ground. The small mouth rim is painted with gilt. The decoration is executed with precise blue outline filled in with overglaze enamels of high quality typically found on fine Imperial doucai wares. The base inside the rounded rectangular foot rim is inscribed with a six-character Imperial Qianlong seal mark in underglaze blue. Except for minor enamel wears, this beautiful doucai double-gourd flask with handles is in excellent condition. This is a truly rare find for serious Qing Imperial porcelains.
