This is an exceptional example of a very large Pipefish, Syngnathus sp., from the Miocene Monterey Formation of California. This is the best specimen from my collection. I believe it may have been a pregnant female based upon the deep body behind the skull. This specimen is completely natural and unrestored. They are related to the modern Seahorses and Pipefishes. The fish measures 8 inches along the curve of the body. Overall, the matrix measures 6 x 8 5/8 x 9/16 inches. Shipping costs are set at $6.00 Domestic USPS Priority Mail.
