I'm very pleased to offer this exceptional Goethite crystal specimen from the Goethite No. 1 claim, near Lake George, Park County, Colorado. This superb crystal group measures about 3-1/2 x 2-1/4 x 1 inches or 9 x 6 x 2.5 cm and is in fabulous condition.
This is a piece from the Mel Gortatowski collection of Salt Lake City. He obtained it from the late great George Fisher (a legendary CO field collector) for $50 in October, 1990. The specimen comes with no prior labels but this is the information that I received with the specimen when I obtained this from a friend who is handling part of the Gortatowski collection. I could find no reference to the Goethite No. 1 claim but feel that this may be what is now known as the Qui-Buc No. 1 claim near Lake George. I would appreciate any solid information that one might have regarding the Goethite No. 1 claim.
This is a superb specimen composed entirely of brilliant goethite crystals. These clusters were sometimes found perched atop smoky quartz crystals and clusters and one can see the negative cast in this piece where it had once rested atop quartz. The specimen sits beautifully for display and is exceptionally brilliant. It is also more sturdy than most that I've had from area finds. This is by far the finest piece that I've ever had and would not leave my possession if I was still collecting for myself.
The luster, three-dimensionality, condition and aesthetics of this specimen make it a truly outstanding display piece. The provenance or pedigree is fabulous too with the George Fisher connection. If you've ever wanted a choice example of this material, this is an excellent opportunity to get a superb example at a reasonable price---one far below what lesser examples have sold for with some of the more prominent internet dealers. I have no axe to grind with such dealers as they have expenses and overhead that I cannot imagine. I'm a small fish in a very big pond---as such, I have certain advantages and can almost always offer specimens at well below typical dealer prices.
