A superb round tin with Kate Greenaway illustration on the lid of a tea party in a summer garden. No.MD 1821/2920 Date: 1980 Creator: Huntley, Boorne & Stevens, Designer; Mick Hill Publisher: Huntley & Palmers This tin embarrassed Associated Biscuits when a vigilant grocer noticed rude images hidden in the shrubbery which had been added by a mischievous freelance designer Mick Hill. Although production of the tin was stopped, the marketing opportunity was not missed and the tin was reissued without the rude images. Hill also added naughty images to other tin designs including 'Cocktail Barrel', in which a gentleman offers a lady a spliff! Dimensions: Height: 6.0cm, Diameter: 20.5cm In very good condition and rare with the original H+P paper illustrated insert and biscuit packaging. One of these tins recently fetched £423 as seen in this article on the net: /Designer+lifts+lid+on+rude+pics.-a0115793271 "Byline: EXCLUSIVE by MEGAN LLOYD DAVIES The illustrator behind a "naughty" biscuit tin lid yesterday confessed to sneaking extra pictures on to all his other designs. Mick Hill, 54, revealed all after a tin picturing a couple having sex fetched £423 at auction. "It just made me titter. It was mischief," he said. But Tesco bosses were fuming in the 1970s after they had to remove the tins from their shelves. Biscuit manufacturers Huntley and Palmers were not pleased either. Mr Hill had put the sex scene on after they approved another design. "I kept quiet because I thought I might be in trouble," he said. The tin lids, which also show a couple of amorous dogs and a cannabis plant, are now collectors' items. And there was fierce bidding when one went up for auction at Lawrences of Crewkerne, Somerset. But yesterday Mr Hill admitted he had hidden other "naughty bits". "I thought people would spot them," he said. CAPTION(S): SECRETS: Mick Hill" Another net article from a UK paper "The Sun" website: "Huntley & Palmer, which created Ginger Nuts, failed to spot the saucy extras in its genteel garden party design. And tens of thousands were sold before a grocer noticed a couple romping in the bushes among the hob-nobbing Edwardians. Two randy dogs can also be made out bonking beside the maid’s petticoat tails, while the word s*** appears on a jam jar. Crumbs ... couple, left, and dogs, right Alerted chiefs replaced the lids but they became the ultimate prize among collectors of Huntley & Palmer’s whimsical tins. Now one is set to fetch £250 next week. Somerset auctioneer Richard Gold, whose colleague Miranda Bingham is pictured with it, joked: “I can’t say I’ve made a habit of selling top-shelf tins.” The Berkshire biccy firm also made Iced Gems, Nice biscuits and Bourbons before its takeover. And a source said: “The tin’s special. It’s a funny example of what can go wrong in manufacturing.”" Thanks for looking and Welcome to my shop!
