on sale is this Roman intaglio ring depicting Legionary Eagle. Such a ring would have been worn by an officer or centurion serving within the Roman Legions. The Eagle was much favored amongst commanding officers. This ring is in excellent condition. In fact you could not find a better example of a genuine Roman intaglio ring. The intaglio is beautifully cut on a lovely deep black carnelian gemstone. The depiction of Eagle is a superb example of the Roman Gemmarius art, the shape and flow of the engraving being classic late 1st century AD. inscription under the eagle LEG. A great investment quality piece of ancient jewellery, for the serious collector! DATE: c. 80 - 180 AD MATERIAL: Bronze & Carnelian SIZE: 22mm x 10mm (intaglio 13mm x 7mm) Weight: 10.2g USA size 11.
