Absolutely gorgeous piece of Italian micro mosaic millefiori glass bead work. Intricate detailing with all tesserae intact. Bright vibrant colors, rich patina on the brass setting with the old-fashioned "c" closure. Note the large size: this piece measures over 2 1/2" wide and over 1 1/2" tall! Age unknown, but an educated guess dates it from around turn of the century to perhaps the 40s. The first two pictures were taken in daylight and really show up the brightness and clarity of the colors. The last five pics were shot indoors in lighting conditions that were not optimal, however, I tried to get the best close-ups I could, to show you the brilliance of this artist's detailed work. However, my camera is not the best in the macro department and just doesn't do the brooch justice. Notice the intricate "spiraling" work in the edge/border pieces. Amazing. And the way the artist alternated black and red in the edge pieces is a fine piece of graphic design, setting off and contrasting the deep blue background, and catching the eye of the viewer. The mini-flower garden that is the centerpiece of this masterwork is simply stunning, bright and shiny, every detailed piece in place and intact, with an eye-pleasing design, complementary and arresting colors. Equally as interesting as the mosaic work is the delicate and intricate metal work. The setting is fine craftsmanship that really sets off and complements the beautiful glass work enclosed. I've owned this beautiful jewelry for over 30 years and have never tried to "polish" the metal, much preferring the beautiful and dignified patina that age has gracefully bestowed on this wonderful vintage brooch/pin.
