A walnut and brass bound Victorian writing slope from c. 1880, with impressive figuration and in great antique condition. A large slope, could have been a campaign slope, but, because of its impressive veneer I suspect this was for the home. Well maintained during its long life, the slope has complete veneer, the slight chips it accumulated have been repaired and the writing surface has been professionally re leathered. This will last the lucky buyer and his descendants a further 150 years as an item of use, display or gift. Note the key enters the lock at a slight angle, this is because the lock has been replaced, albeit with an authentic lock from another slope but does not line up exactly, the key however works fine as long as it is used at a slight angle. Note also the slope has secret drawers, hidden beneath the cover under the top flap, this would originally have had a spring mechanisn to spring the flap, it now removes manually. Note, slope is offered complete with working key, inkwell and pen. Size 20 x 9.5 "
