Thisis a dramatic and quite superb original oil on canvas by the brilliant British Royal Academy artist, Bernard Finegan Gribble (1872-1962) . This superb oil painting depicts 'The Arrival of the Spanish Armada off the South Coast of England' in 1588. BF Gribble was one of Britain’s finest ever painters of marine and historical subjects and this is a beauty. Gribble exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and the Paris Salon , and his work was bought by many of the most famous names of 20 th century. Franklin D. Roosevelt purchased Gribble's painting of the arrival of American destroyers at Queenstown in Ireland, during World War I and had it hung in the Oval Office of the White House when he became President in 1933. Other notable owners of Gribble paintings included Queen Mary, the German Kaiser, Frank Sinatra and Jackie Onassis .
