Superb Gentlemans original Swiss 'The Ball Company' (Ball Commercial), high grade 17 jewel lever movement (Record) railroad type pocket watch (lever set) with beautiful montgomery porcelain dial and a highly polished/mirror finish 10ct (tested) gold filled hermetic railroad case. C 1930's. Full working order and is an excellent timekeeper (within +1/-1 minutes per 24 hours - with plenty of adjustment on the regulator for fine tuning). Fully checked by myself and my highly experienced watchmaker and is guaranteed to be 100% authentic - a timepiece to grace any collection! DIAL;- Beautiful ivory (almost white) clear, bright and very fresh high gloss montgomery porcelain dial in good condition - few feint little hairlines around 10 with tiny chip and edge of dial nibble near lever (as is such a busy dial none detract). Extremely bold black arabic numbers with black minute and bolder five minute markers forming chapter ring with red and black arabic numbers (1 - 60) to outer edge. Recessed sub dial with black seconds chapters and black arabic numbers. Original very large railroad type blued steel spade and whip hands (slight bit of age patina showing under eyeglass only to minute hand) and blued steel seconds hand all in lovely condition. Signed clearly in bold black script; BALL COMMERCIAL and signed in black below sub dial; SWISS. Original very thick domed glass (not acrylic) in clear and bright order with just a few near micro-scratches showing again under eyeglass commensurate with age and use. CASE;- The chunky 5.1cm diameter/6.3cm from top of bow to base very highly polished/mirror finish (please excuse any reflections in the pictures - was very difficult to photograph) original 10ct (tested) gold filled railroad type hermetic case is heavy, robust and in very good order with just the tiniest little bit of pocket wear showing under eyeglass only to circumference of back cover, one light little indentation to back cover only (can feel it rather than see it and is usually caused by having loose coins jangling around with the watch in a pocket) and few little light and short surface scratches showing under eyeglass commensurate with age and use in her 80+ years service. The front bezel and back cover screw on and off correctly, closing tightly and both have a crisp raised coin edge making for an easy grip. The inside of the back cover (which has some little age spots) is stamped; EMPRESS (with a large crown symbol below), STURDY. CASE MADE N CANADA. and is numbered (slightly rubbed); 5600196. MOVEMENT;- The stem wound and lever set high grade 17 ruby jewelled 3/4 plate lever movement is in the most wonderful clean and bright order (looks as good as the day it was made) and carries lovely engine turning to the top plates. Has a solid bi-arm balance (did not want to stop for the camera - showing the balance spring is in perfect beat) with brass balance screws and two meantime screws (for precision timing), bright blued steel overcoil balance spring which is true and 'in the round', large ruby jewels in gold cup settings, ruby end stone again in a cup setting, beautiful engine turning to the mainspring and ratchet barrel covers and fabulous tangent screw regulator (for fine timing). Stamped on the top plate in clear gold script; THE BALL COMANY SWISS RECORD SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS UNADJUSTED. Also stamped with the calibre number (again in gold); 435 and stamped on the balance cock (in gold); BXC. Balance action is absolutely terrific in all positions (could not be any better) and is keeping excellent time with a sure, strong positive action. Runs like a train! Winds extremely smoothly and fully (please do not be afraid to fully wind - overwinding is the great horological myth!) Lever hand set (located at 11) operates smoothly and correctly.
