This is a huge superb quality Victorian silver multi level Scottish agate and gemstone kilt pin or large brooch.I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found. The stunning selection of stones are grey agate from Montrose on the east coast of Scotland, orange, red and mustard Campsie Fells jasper from Stirlingshire, green Isle of Rum bloodstone, green and gold moss agate from Burn Anne in Ayrshire and a stunning facetted citrine from the Cairngorm mountain range which has been fully tested by a local jeweller to confirm it is a citrine. PLEASE NOTE : The line you see on the grey agate section is just a reflection in the light box, all the stones are in excellent condition. The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for brooches from this period, but has been tested and is sterling silver. The pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original. The pin size is huge at 9.6 cm which is just under four inches. This is an extremely beautiful and substantial kilt pin or large brooch with a stunning selection of Scottish gemstones.
