SUPERB VINTAGE FRENCH FAUX TORTOISESHELL & MOTHER OF PEARL BEDSIDE CLOCK c1940 SUPERB VINTAGE FRENCH FAUX TORTOISESHELL & MOTHER OF PEARL BEDSIDE CLOCK This is a sweet little French strut clock worthy of any home or collection. Please make use of the enlarge feature on the photos to fully enjoy all it has to offer. The stunning surround has a beautifully simple, clean design, which shows off the colours of the materials used superbly. The main body of the surround is of faux tortoiseshell with deep chestnut browns run through with vibrant amber veining. Add to this the wonderful pearlescent "wings", and you have a true "thing of beauty". Into this perfect setting sits the very pretty gilt dial. Crisp black stylised numerals contrast against the rich, gold gilt work, and the beautiful engine turned dial center. I have taken a photo with the back off the clock. The movement is stamped "made in France" and also has a makers mark of J.P. in a lozenge shape. Alas I don't know who this is...over to you. The back cover also bares a small stamp of ABLE C.H.& Cie, Paris, who again I know nothing about other than I found a 1950s advert for the company (high-end Parisian retailers). The clock is working, keeping good time. The only "fault" I can find, is that one of the small screws is missing from the back. This does not affect either
