Superb WATSON Stereo ‘Tropical’ Camera Maker W .Watson & Sons Ltd. 313 High Holborn LONDON Type Folding stereo tailboard camera for ‘Tropical’ work. (The mahogany has brass reinforced joints and corners.) Plate Half-a-plate Date Circa 1900 /1910 Number There are two numbers: 15322 on base and 15267 on the back Description A really fine example of a mahogany and brass half-plate stereo field camera of the classic Victorian tailboard design. The corners and joints are reinforced with inlaid brass. It has tapered 45 degree cornered black bellows and a septum. Thornton Pickard stereo shutter and a pair of brass barelled BECK SYMMETRICAL lenses. Baseboard A folding base of substantial mahogany construction. It is locked down with two brass struts to give a firm set up. The base extends 6.5 inches. It has a double rack and pinion. There is a brass t ripod bush in the base. Front 9” x 8.5”with vertical and horizontal lens adjustment. Back The screw-down back has a swing and tilting frame with a ground-glass focusing screen and holder for 7.5 x 6.5 plates. The base folds up to protect the glass screen. Corners Fine comb joints, with inlaid brass reinforcement. Bellows Black leather bellows in really good condition. There is a septum.
