Swaine Germany ANTIQUE Flow Blue Tray Delft Style Hi. A knockout item, big enough to decorate an entire table, or the highlight in a curio cabinet. Pristine condition, I found this packed away by the former owner for almost 50 years. They didn't even know they had it, or what it was. Being afraid they might sell it to me for TOO LITTLE, they had an "expert" tell them it was a Dresden tray. THAT is why it cost me a lot. Had the former owner known the REAL name, Swaine, I would have gotten it for far less. Few people know Swaine, Everyone has heard of Dresden. Swaine & Co,Germany, circa 1900-1910. The famous makers of Swaine dolls: (see item # 260092077047). Schoenau, Huttensteinach of Thurgina Germany merged with Swaine. Later, in 1920, Swaine changed their name to Schoenau & Swaine. In 1954 the company was nationalized and named VEB Sonneberg Factories (see Kovels). This same tray, but a smaller version 1/3 the size of this, was exampled in Kovels in 1990 with a price value of $115. Had this one been an example it would be "tagged" with a "book" price of $350, 17 years ago. Pristine condition, this is far nicer-looking in person. The colors and design is exquisite, done in the Delft-style. With a magnifying glass you can Still see the fine detailing. Photo #3 shows how this was made to for the edges to look like waves breaking.
