RARE Our beautiful Fan tail DOVE has delightfully pretty intelligent PINK eyes and a brilliantly faceted crystal puffed up chest and shaped fan tail. She has a clear crystal head, a clear sharp beak and frosted crystal feet . Presented in mint condition with no chips, cracks or damage in original round 60mm foam padded with inserts silver crystal Swarovski box, with certificate of authenticity. and original Swarovski label on lid of box. It is characterised by a fan-shaped tail composed of 30 to 40 feathers, abnormally more than most members of the pigeon family, which usually have 12 to 14 feathers. There is a feather mutation called Silky that gives an interesting lace effect to a Fantails tail feathers. Fantails with this mutation are known as Silky or Lace Fantails. Fantails are often used by pigeon flyers in the training of racing pigeons and Tipplers . They are used as droppers in that they are placed on the loft landing board as a signal to the flying birds to come in and be fed. In general, the terms "dove" and "pigeon" are used somewhat interchangeably. In ornithological practice, "dove" tends to be used for smaller species and "pigeon" for larger ones, but this is in no way consistently applied, and historically, the common names for these birds involve a great deal of variation between the terms. The pigeon has contributed to both World War I and II, notably by the Australian, French, German, American , and UK forces. Thirty-two pigeons have been decorated with the Dickin Medal for war contributions, including Commando, G.I. Joe, Paddy, and William of Orange. Cher Ami , a homing pigeon in World War I , was awarded the Croix de Guerre Medal with a palm Oak Leaf Cluster for his service in Verdun and for delivering the message that saved the Lost Battalion of the 77th Infantry Division in the Battle of the Argonne , October 1918. When Cher Ami died, he was mounted and is part of the permanent exhibit at the National Museum of American History of the Smithsonian Institution . A grand ceremony was held in Buckingham Palace to commemorate a platoon of pigeons that braved the battlefields of Normandy to deliver vital plans to Allied forces on the fringes of Germany. Three of the actual birds that received the medals are on show in the London Military Museum so that well-wishers can pay their respects. Later, the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus at his baptism like a dove ( Matthew 3:16), and subsequently the " peace dove " became a common Christian symbol of the Holy Spirit.
