Fully restored. D I M E N S I O N S - 55 1/2 w x 17 7/8 d x 54 h in. D E S C R I P T I O N - Swedish Karl Johan (Biedermeier) Revival Bookcase or Vitrine crafted of gorgeous dark flame birch with a golden birch interior. Have you ever seen such beautiful wood? The flame birch is almost iridescent and changes in the light from daytime to nighttime. Truly hypnotizing! Note the carved appliques and book-matching of the grain. Two side doors conceal shelved storage, was a glass fronted center door covers a wide display area. One center drawer. Very sturdy, heavy and in wonderful shape for its age, this is an investment into "forever furniture." We recommend that you do not accept anything less! This style was known as "Karl Johan" beginning around 1840 in Sweden - named after the Swedish king of the era -was the term "Biedermeier" originated in Germany and Austria. This cabinet a fine example of Karl Johan Revival, popular in the early part of the 20th century in Sweden - combining the traditional Karl Johan or Biedermeier style with the 1920's aesthetic. Now the name Biedermeier is used to describe the aesthetics of this clean-lined, elegant form of Northern European decorative arts, regardless of origin.
