SCHOENHUT NATURE BABY This sweet but somber Schoenhut Baby is all wood construction with a bent leg baby body and painted features. She is marked with the Schoenhut decal on her back and was designed by Harry Schoenhut for the Albert Schoenhut Co. in Philadelphia. Harry designed the babies, both the 107 in 1913 and then the 108 with added detail, which this one is. Interestingly, each arm and each leg are composed of three pieces which are doweled and firmly glued together before painting to give a more "natural" appearance for babies; thus the so called "Nature Babies". Body is spring jointed at the shoulders and hips as well as the neck. The clothes, simple shift, matching onesie and bonnet, are old and fit well although are not original to this Baby. CONDITION: The joints squeek but maintain a pose well. Wig is missing, and Baby originally had a short cropped baby-type wig. Some of the 107 and 108 babies had airbrushed color on their heads representing hair, although you can see in the pics w the wig was inserted and some paint rubs and possible touchups w the wig was removed. The facial features retain original paint although brows are faded considerably.
