Weight: 1 1/2 pounds The Bell of Kamela Every year, the lumberjacks used to work in the Blue Mountains in the east of Oregon State while hunting deer. Every time, they used to tell the same story when they returned. Close to the small village of Kamela, they heard a mysterious bell ringing in the distance. No one was ever able to determine the origin of these sounds, because they were constantly defused by wind, which blew through the tops of the high pine trees. They were not trusted seriously, for no one could prove their statements. During the last week, as the lumberjacks were busy shifting a sub-cable in the surroundings of Benneville, a big pine tree had to be cut down. On this occasion, the mystery was revealed. A bronze cowbell was securely tied up at the top of the pine tree by a worn leather strap. The following inscription was engraved on the bell: CHIANTEL FONDEUR SAIGNELEGIER 1878 The tongue was eroded and shiny due to the endless gentle oscillation and the friction of the bell for years. The people of Kamela explained that the bell had been hung a long time ago by a Swiss pioneer for this pine tree was still a little tree, which had grown up to become huge. This tale was first published in "Times" of New York on the sixteenth of July 1951. On the eighth of August 1958 the local newspaper "Le Franc Montagnard" published it in French translation.
