T-4. WWI French Foreign Legion grouping from American! Very interesting grouping from American who served in the French Foreign Legion in WWI! When I first acquired this grouping I had no idea to whom it belonged, but later I opened up the gun cleaning kit and found a rolled up newspaper article inside! The article is very nice & long and informative. His name was Henry Cushing Collins, and he was from Lowell. He was living in France at the start of the war, and joined the Legion along with 25 other Americans, and three years later only 7 were left alive and of those only 2 were not wounded. He served a total of three years and saw action in the Dardanelles and Greece. He was wounded in the leg, and later returned to France in 1916 and was permanently disabled by a German gas attack on July 4, 1917. He was then discharged and returned home to the States. The grouping includes the original newspaper article, his Adrian pattern French helmet, group of medals, souvenir patriotic pocket knife, souvenir lighter shaped like artillery shell, gun cleaning kit (no contents), and brass belt buckle. Medals include a WWI Croix de Guerre with 1914-16 dated reverse, WWI Victory medal, Verdun Medal, and WWI Commemorative "Grande Guerre" medal. Unfortunately the items have suffered from poor storage over the years. The helmet has a brown patina read more
