Jimmy Cooke's knowledge of pipes is deep and wide. And while his intense concentration on refining the sandblast finish has inclined him towards the simpler classical shapes as a showcase for his art, the spirit sometimes moves him to more complex shapes, as in the present example, which dates to 2007. It's bold but fluid calabash form, with a convex top, a curvaceous body, a curved and tapered shank, and a beautiful cast amberoid saddle bit. The entire stummel is deeply, almost uncannily etched in ring grain, with birdseye showing on the rim. This is a nice, medium sized pipe of group 4 capacity, that hangs comfortably in the in the mouth or perches easily in the palm It's been smoked perhaps twice or thrice, and remains in essentially pristine condition in all regards. It comes in one of Jimmie's plain velvet sleeves with gold leaf stampings. Dimensions are: L: 6" H: 2.25" ID: .75" W: 2 oz
