T30 $10 1861. The famed "Sweet Potato Dinner " vignette is seen on this Third Series example. Marion Inviting a British Officer to Dinner was the work of artist John B. White. Sir Banistree Tartleton is being offered sweet potatoes for dinner by General Francis Marion. The vignette is also seen on State of South Carolina issues. Whether this encounter between General Marion, a.k.a. the Swamp Fox, and an unknown British officer actually took place is open to debate. The lower left corner is missing on this otherwise evenly circulated Fine note. Grade: 120, Service: Allen, Service No.: 7030000
