You are looking at a TAC(tical) BE(acon) as used by Special Forces and downed aircrews. These were manufactured by Burndept in the UK and used worldwide until the phasing out of the 243 mhz distress frequency about 6 years ago. TACBE provided faithful service and many men owe their lives to this simple yet reliable radio. The tests were extensive, they were boiled, baked, frozen, hammered, submerged, just about anything you can imagine was done to them, that is why they were accepted by the British Special Forces. If you have a copy of Bravo Two Zero then the TACBE will be only too familiar to you.
The radio is two channel, 243.0 mhz being the primary distress frequency, and 282.8 mhz being the line of sight frequency for contacting the inbound helicopter. On the primary channel if you pull a pin then it becomes a beacon that transmits a pulse that can be DF'ed (direction found) and can be homed in on. The radio is complete and working. I have included the dummy battery and a partially used battery. The radio fires up and transmits on both channels, and the beacon works. The battery only has around 7 volts of charge left, normally they supply 12 volts. So please note that the battery is being sold as unserviceable, although it does allow the radio to work. Please bear in mind that one of these batteries cost £125 new in 1995, and they were sold in boxes of 20 minimum. I will leave you to work out how much that costs...... This is my second and final TacBe, after this one goes I have no more. They are very rare and i Have only come across four. AUCTION CONDITIONS, please read before bidding. I ship internationally at the buyers full cost and expense. Payment by Paypal only. I ship once payment has been recieved. Anyone with any negatives or less than 10 positives please contact me before bidding. Contact must be made by the buyer within 24 hours of the auctions end. Good luck and thanks for looking
