Greetings friends,
It's been a long time. I've been busy filling orders and living life. Up for auction are three vases I have recently made, this is one of them. I decided to re visit the old Venetian technique of Mezzostampo, taught to me by Fritz Driesbach. Two of them I made as a demonstration for Hot Glass Horizons, the small gold one I made for fun. I hope you enjoy them. Shipping within the lower 48 states will be $25. Any winners outside of this area is are required to e mail me thier shipping address BEFORE payment so that shipping arrangements can be made. Failure to do this means you dont get the piece. Thanks for looking. Live long and Prosper ! Don't forget to BID ! THE STATS FOR THIS PIECE ARE : COLOR: Lava Red size 2 frit , Black decorative handles and foot. MEASUREMENTS: 13 1/4" tall X 9" at widest point. OTHER: The Lava Red really POPS out under halogen or natural sunlight. Original foot was replaced with a black one. T is a large bubble on the inside that I smoothed over and hid under one the handles. It is totally hidden and does NOT affect the aesthetics of the work. This auction is for a piece of hand blown glass, designed and executed by myself, Manny Quinones. After making glass for others for many years, I've come to realize that E bay is the perfect outlet for me to once again bring my glass to you, the public. No deadlines, no galleries, no design restrictions, just you and me, Mano a Mano. Yeah! You get the picture, I make the work, and you set the price. This format allows me complete artistic freedom to express myself. Most pieces are one of a kind or end of the day pieces. Rest assured, with 18 years of glass blowing experience my pieces are guaranteed to be free of defects, cracks or breaks, will sit flat and not wobble, and be absolutely stunning! I am well versed in many styles of glass blowing, so please be sure to visit my other auctions. The year was 1978, (I think) the event was the 7th grade class filed trip, and the place was "Vitrix Hot Glass Studio" in Corning, NY. The music was blasting and three or four guys were running around the studio making ornaments at a frantic pace. It seemed the glass was flying and everything was moving so fast my eyes could barely keep up. Somebody was talking, but I was not listening. All I heard was "so, does anyone have any questions?" I quickly raised my hand and foolishly asked, "How can I get a job ?" Somebody laughed, "Does anyone have any other questions?" No one did so we left. Fast forward ten years, I had forgotten about that class trip, until I really did need a job. I walked past Vitrix and thought, "Yeah I remember that place." I applied twice and was turned down twice. I was hired by the studio next door, Brand and Greenberg Glass. I apprenticed under Alex Brand for ten years, ran my own studio for two years (Man E. Q. Glass). Also worked for Christian Thirion (Glassart), Steuben Glass and Lost Angel Glass. I taught at Hands on Glass Studio and currently teach intermediate glass blowers at The Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass. I have studied or taken workshops with Petr Novotny, Bill Gudenrath, Lino Tagliapeitra, Fritz Driesbach and others. As of yet I have no BFA, MFA, Doctorate, or PHD. But I am proud to say that I apprenticed in the old world style of hard work and acquisition of skill via the repetition of production work. I am a graduate of life and that should account for something. Oh, guess what? In 2005 Vitrix asked me if I would come to work for them. I dais yes and if some little kids asks about getting a job, I promise I will not laugh. I will just smile and make sure they get our application
