Up for auction is a used Tascam Portastudio 488. An 8-track recorder with built in mixer. 8-track recording capability 12 input mixer with 8 mono and 2 stereo Uses inexpensive regular recording cassettes effect sends with stereo returns main and monitor outs DBX noise reduction and sync capability RTZ function for quick tape shuttling Large LCD display pitch control Manual I have had this unit for four years and have used it successfully on many occasions. This past summer upon trying to use the unit, I found a problem. All buttons, knobs and inputs worked correctly, and I could record with no issue, but there was something wrong with the playback. Upon replaying something I had recorded, the Portastudio did not maintain consistent playback speed. By all accounts, this has to do with the gears that turn the tape heads. With that said, the unit will be sold as-is. If anyone has the knowledge and resources to repair this item, it would be a nice addition to any recording arsenal. If not, the 8-channel mixer still works perfectly and could be used without having to deal with the playback problem Comes with original instruction manual.
