This is a stunning zogan platter from the legendary kiln of Tatsuzo Shimaoka. The platter does not have the stamp of Shimaoka, looks like it could have been filled in with the glaze, but has been authenticated by a Japanese auction house, which is where this was first bought, and the last picture shows the auction number and write-up. There is also some documentation on a paper attached to the bottom of the platter. Sorry, I do not write or read Japanese, so I cannot tell you what is says. This is a wonderful piece by a Japanese National Treasure, who passed away in 2007. There is also Japanese writing on the paper that covered the box it came in. There is no wooden signed box by Mr. Shimaoka. No repairs and no damage. There are many internet sites you can browse to read all about Mr. Shimaoka if you are not familiar with his work. Mr. Shimaoka has an incredible history and so it is worth a search to learn more about his life in ceramics. This piece is approximately 2.3"H X 12.2"W. Shipping will be estimated with the shipping calculator, but will be let known when the auction is over to include insurance and shipping. Paypal accepted. Please do not pay until I send an invoice with the correct postage and insurance costs. All sales final. Texas residents pay sales tax.
