Celebrating Over 10 Years on Ebay!! Sterling & Black Onyx Pin Description: This is one of the BEST carvings I've had from early Taxco Mexico. A wonderful, BIG piece of black onyx carved distinctly into a man's head wearing a turban. Very realistic, very excellent carving. The piece is set on a piece of sterling and t are sterling prongs holding the head to the backing -- it's been very finely done. Dangling from the man's "ears" are sterling earrings set with wirework and beads. Just a fine, fine quality piece. Very early, circa 1935. Extremely 3 dimensional and makes quite a statement. You'll not see another one like this one! The picture is probably mis-leading, this is a LARGE sized pin. Hallmarks : Made in Mexico Size : 2 1/4" x 1 1/2" Condition : Excellent History: The silversmithing history in Taxco is long and event filled. Taxco is a colonial city that by the mid-1930's had become a center for both the tourist industry and for Mexican Silver. In 1931, William Spratling inaugurated the Taller de las Delicias and Taxco became the center in Mexico for hand wrought silver work. Note that I combine shipping on purchases of multiple items.
