Vintage Taxco Sterling Silver and Obsidian Necklace Up for your consideration is truly a museum quality example of Mexico artistry.This impressive piece features a large, hand carved, gold sheen obsidian. This gem is mounted in a deep bezel setting and surrounded with sterling.The ornate headdress with etched design sits above the mask and is balanced by a silver collar complete with dangling feathers. Depth and contrast are created by the dark niello detailing of the recessed lines. Also the niello background goes well with the deep color of the obsidian. The feathers and large swinging hoop earrings really give the piece movementThis is a wonderful example of functional art. The heavy bale that holds the chain can be totally removed leaving the piece as a brooch complete with rolling safety clasp.The chain displays artisan workmanship as well.
