Octavo, hardbound in brown cloth with gilt titles. 211pp, with errata slip laid in. Illustrated in b/w from historic photos; map of Limington and surrounds in 1872. No dust jacket (none issued). A thorough history of the town, with much useful material for genealogy and much of interest on very early history, including the Ossipee Tract, the Pequawkets and their trail, early stage and mail services, surveys and sqauatters, and so forth. Chapters include: Geography, Land Titles, Indians, Early Settlers, Early Days, Religious Societies, Education, Industries, Prominent Citizens, Military (Revolutionary soldiers, militia and early musters, Old Byington, and Civil War), Bibliography, Genealogy. The Genealogy chapter is extensive, presented in small print, and packed with information from "an extensive study...to complete the vital records of the families that had lived in town up to 1892" with data drawn from school district polls, town papers, town records, cemetery stone inscriptions, census records, death records, family records, and family genealogies.
