This Japanese tea-cup coaster appears to date from the 1910s or 1920s, and was made to commemorate the retirement of a soldier (named Hamaoka, as written in red on the bottom) from the army. At the lower portion on the inside is written, "Jotai Kinen" ("Retirement Commemoration"), while on the left is the Japanese Army star. We're not sure what the gate depiction on the right is meant to represent, but it may symbolize leaving the barracks. It appears to be made of blackened bronze. As shown in the sample pics, t are a few spots and streaks of light green oxidation, but otherwise t are no significant dents, scratches, or other damage.
