Paula Thorne's medium size teapot basket is just as enchanting as her larger ones. Here Paula, Penobscot basketmaker, fashions her teapot out of deep burgundy dyed brown ash. Many of Paula's baskets have a joyous, free and whimsical feel to them - this medium size burgundy teapot basket is a great example of that. Paula makes her tea pots in several sizes. This medium size one is 3" in diameter, 2.25" to the top of the lid, the round top handle of braided tidal sweetgrass adds another 1" to the height. The handle and spout give this an overall length of 4.5". (At the time of this listing I have 1 smaller size and 2 larger size teapot baskets available) The basket is covered with downward angled porcupine curls. These are smaller at top and bottom which is a sight of a skilled basketmaker..yet the curls have a slightly uneven quality that adds to the whimsical free feel of this piece. This basket is made of brown ash splints, the traditional material of Maine and Eastern Canadian basketmakers. There is also braided sweetgrass as the lid handle and the rims of the lid and the teapot are wrapped with plain tidal sweetgrass.
