TELEVISION 1975-1976" – SIGNED Published by Masao Mochizuki Published by SNAP-Sha, Tokyo, 2001 In Slipcase, LIMITED to Printing of 1800 Copies In a sense, television is the eye with which the world sees itself. We "experience" external events happening thousands of miles away, or in our own town, through this window. On one level Television 1975-1976 is a fascinating time-capsule of world events, depicting TV coverage of the docking of the Apollo-Soyuz spacecrafts, a Muhammad Ali fight, and the death of Chairman Mao, as well as documentaries and other minor news events. But Masao Mochizuki brings to light the synthetic, manufactured nature of television and alerts us that, due to the very properties of the moving image, the information we receive from television is fleeting and tenuous. The Artist took these photos with a dual-lens camera in a dark room in front of a black-and-white television; the final prints include dozens of images on the same frame, occasionally overlapping. This overwhelming blur of images critiques the passive act of absorbing events from this medium, and the impartial, unwavering manner of the television itself, which spews information in a steady stream, regardless of content. NEW, SIGNED, FIRST EDITION, limited to 1800 copies. Published in conjunction with an exhibition of the same name at the Cohen Amador
