I just purchased this book for myself and decided to see if any of you want a copy. I really like it. It is the third book (6/2006) by a relatively new artist named Tenmyouya Hisashi and I think he is really talented. The contemparary imagery and high energy in his work make him incredibly compelling. A lot of man-as-machine depictions. Most of his people are tattooed, some of his animals are too. He brings in ancient ideology, t is a definite feeling of pride in being Japanese in all his work, and he captures the combination of old and new Japan that I think is evident in all aspects of Japanese society (or what I've seen of it). His graphics are very clear and crisp. His renditions of gangs are sooooo accurate, you see kids like this all over Tokyo. His animals are compelling, samurai frogs and tigers, and he assimilates antique ukiyo-e motifs (oni, gods, etc.) with modern manga imagery. I love this book and am, obviously, very excited about it. This book is huge, the prints are as well. It is softcover and appx. 11"x11" and 170 pages, most full page, full color prints. These prints are from the Japanese Spirit collection - the corresponding Japanese Spirit book is out of print and hard to find so if you missed these in the first collection 's a second chance, as well as many from his second book Kabukimono. T are new prints in as well for those of you who own the first two books.....Another great aspect of this book is that the titles are listed in English as well as Japanese and all text is translated as well...t is some really interesting commetary at the end that delves into Hisashi's thought and inspirations for his art, focusing on specific pieces.
