Tennesse Land Grant: December 20, 1850. Located in Madison, County, Tennessee August 28, 1849 and granted to the heirs of William Harris. #11842 130 acres. Description is Range 2 Section 9, East of the Meridian. A written description of the outline of the land involves moving from already located sections to different kinds of trees, chestnuts, white oaks, spanish oaks, hickories, all measured in poles. Signed by Tennessee Secretary of State[1847-1855] W[illiam] B[laine] A[lexander] Ramsey (1799-1874) and Tennessee Governor William Trousdale [see scan] William Trousdale (1790-1872) was born in Orange County North Carolina and came to Sumner County, Tennessee in 1796 [the year of statehood]. He was educated locally and constantly volunteered to fight in wars. He left school to fight in the Creek War and the War of 1812, serving at Talledaga, Pensacola and New Orleans. He was a colonel of volunteers in the Seminole War. He was a Tennessee militia general in 1836. During the Mexican War, he was colonel of the 14th Regiment and was severly wounded at Chapultepec. He served in the Tennessee State Senate in 1835 and running as a Democrat was defeated for Congress in 1837. He was elected Governor of Tennessee as a Democrat and served one term from 1849-1851.
