is a very rare âeoeDollond Londonâe Telescope. Not only does it have the script âeoeDollond Londonâe but opposite of that is the script's initial âeoeJRâe (I think it is a J, see picture). Of the few I have seen, never have I seen one with this initial on it. Nor have I seen one with the original leather carring case. The top of the case have black tape over it (See Pictures).

This is early 19 th, or even in the 18 th century. Peter Dollond was born in 1730. He is first recorded in 1750 at Vine St., London. A wonderful instrument maker he was appointed optician maker to both George III and the Duke of York. He had various partnerships within the family including with his father from 1752, his brother John from 1766 until his death in 1804 and then his nephew George Huggins (who changed his name to Dollond). George continued the business after the death of Peter in 1820 and became instrument maker to William IV and Queen Victoria and exhibited at the Great Exhibition held in the Crystal Palace, Hyde Park in 1851. He died in 1856.

It measure 28âe open and 9âe closed. It seems to be optically sound. T a shutter that open and close to protect the eyepiece's Len. I see no dents and it open and close fine. But the little screws are missing on the lower section (See pictures) and the Lower section in cracked (See Pictures, all other picture Iâe~ve seen of this telescope has been cracked also).

Some of the shiny finish on the lower section is also gone. It seem to be original with out any work being done on it.

What a rare find! And a great buy for someone.
