TERRIFIC EARLY 1800s CHILDS BLUE & WHITE 15 PC TEA SET #1164 5 Day Auction--This is a very rare circa 1800 child's 15 piece tea set that we just purchased from a very wealthy estate in Atlanta, Georgia along with very fine and very old Staffordshire plates some dating to around 1800. We believe that this set is early Staffordshire ware. The backmark is pictured. Ed spent a couple hours trying to locate it to no avail. This pattern has a vignette, both front and back, of a peasant girl picking flowers and putting them on her apron. T is a house in the background and a tree with flowers around the vignette. T is a lovely repeating flower and leaf border inside the cups, on the suacers, plates, pot and sugar. This is blue or cobalt transferware and the form was popular around 1800. This set, which consists of a teapot (4 1/2" high x 6 1/4" handle to spout x 3" wide) with a repaired handle, pictured, and two tiny "bites" on the underside of the spout that amount to almost nothing, an open creamer (2 1/2" high x 4" handle to spout x 2 3/8" wide), a covered sugar (4" high x 5" handle to handle x 2 5/8" wide), 4 cups (2 1/8" high x 2 5/8" in diameter at the top rim) and 4 saucers (4 1/2" in diameter), and 4 plates (5 1/2" in diameter). Both lids are present and fine. The teapot lid has a steam hole. The creamer and sugar are fine and have no problems. The pates are fine--no problems. The saucers are fine--no problems. Two cups are perfect. One cup has minor roughness on the rim that is factory and the 4th cup has a small bottom edge chip and two age lines, only a small part of one starting to go through 1/4" long and you have to really look for it. You will find some light crazing but the glaze is shiny and smooth on all pieces. So you have the complete set, including the lids, with the vast majority of the pieces in excellent condition and the worst that can be said is a repaired handle. We believe that puts the set in the category of near excellent condition. We are sure once you see the set in person, you will fall in love with it!! 4 NOTES: GEORGIA RESIDENTS: 7% sales tax will be charged OR a copy of the tax form is needed.POSTAGE RATES are in the bright yellow print below. eBay has just started to use a new end of auction email that really wasn't thought through any too well.
