Vintage PHOENIX TEA CUP & SAUCER SET - Heavily Gilded Cup = 2 1/4" Tall x 3 3/4" Diameter + handleSaucer = 5 1/2" Diameter x 3/4" Tall This is a stunning Bone China Cup/Saucer Set made by T,F,& S LTD. in England. It is called Phoenix. It is made from a satiny smooth creamy white white porcelain as the base color. Overlaying the white base is a very intricate pattern of heavily gilt foliage and flowers....some are line drawing, some are filled in. Throughout both the cup and saucer, beautiful flowers have been hand painted - the cup has purple flowers w/ pink centers and the saucer has pink flowers with a dark pink/purple center. Very complementary.They have a shiny finish. The cup sits on a small pedestal and has lovely side contours. The handle is bold, easy to grasp and has a thumb rest for holding it steadily. The saucer is deep (great for holding a cookie, or sipping from saucer when liquid is too hot (a custom in some places) and has a small well in the center to hold the cup in place. The underside has a raised rim to keep heat off of the surface and to keep the set secure and stable.There is shiny 24K gold paint hand painted around the rims of both the cup and saucer, the bottom rim on the cup, and inside the cup.This set is in terrific shape - no chips, cracks, crazing or stains.
