Antique Scientific Instrument... Remarkable Condition! This antique scientific instrument is called the Thacher's Calculating Instrument and was used as a slide rule to make calculations. It was designed in England by Edwin Thacher in the 1880's. It was patented in the U.S. in 1881 and was manufactured by Keuffel & Esser Co. of New York. This is model no. 4012 and is in excellent condition and includes its mahogany case and a 72-page 5-1/2" x 8-3/4" instruction booklet. The front and back covers on the booklet are loose but all the inside pages are intact. The storage box has a brass I.D. tag on the front. The calculator is 22" in length and has a 19-1/2" cylinder that slides out and revolves. The outer scales also revolve. In marvelous condition for such an old instrument. The bottom of the calculator along the base also has instructions for its use. This is the kind of antique instrument you would find in a museum today. A great find...offered for the first time on ebay...fresh from a local engineer's estate. U.S. shipping cost would depend on your location . Insurance and tracking required.
