THACHER'S CALCULATING INSTRUMENT, Very Nice SN 794 Misspelled Name ?From Keuffel & Esser Co, New York, stamped serial number 794. The device is in excellent condition, none of the paper is loose, all of the numbers on the roller are clear and readable. The instructions page on the base is also clear and readable. The brass still shows much of the golden lacquer and black Japanning is in good shape. One small crack in the wood base. And noting one small area on the end of the cylinder w is looks like the surface of the lacquered paper has worn, see last photo. In very nice condition for what I believe to be a very early device. It has Thatcher's patent date of Nov 1st, 1881. Do note that the patentee and the item have different spellings: Thatcher and Thacher's. I wonder why?
