THE BEST american WAFFLE IRON -- MOUNTED HESSIANS!

This is simply one of the best early American waffle irons you'll ever see. Note the photos I included from the Pennsylvania German collection at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, for a similar, yet far lesser example likely made by the same maker. One of the things that makes this one so unique is that the design is cast in to the OUTSIDE of the iron, with standard pyramids on the inside. Both sides of the iron include two mounted dragoons separated by a spruce tree. Pure Pennsylvania german--these were likely Hessians. This is 100% correct and original to the period 1780-1800. I've seen (and own) examples of the "Great Seal" wafer iron, which usually sells for around $1800 and is considered a great rarity, which it is. However, I know of at least 6 examples that have sold in the last 10 years-----Offered is the ONLY example I've ever seen of this historic waffle iron. Following the Revolutionary War, many Hessian mercenaries settled in Pennsylvania, supplementing the large and important Pa. German population which has become so important in the American culture and American folk and decorative arts. The pictures show an iron in the Pa. German collection at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and depict a similar iron with the cast spruce tree identical to the one I'm selling However, theirs does not have the mounted dragoons on either side! This free from any repair or defect, and is truly a museum-quality piece of american iron, and is offered with a very low reserve, a fraction of it's actual value. Please ask any questions--I will ship anyw in the US for $10.00. No second chance offers. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding! The handles on the iron measure 22 1/2 inches from tip to tip. I will guarantee that the waffle iron is of the period described, with a 100% refund/return privelege if the buyer is not completely satisfied, provided I get the iron back undamaged within 5 days of the buyers receipt.
