This barrister bookcase was made by Fred Macey and dates back to the 1900's. It is 100% original and in great shape. These bookcases were made for Lawyers so as t libraries grew one would just go to MACEYS , buy a few more stacks, and add on a section as needed. This is a 5 stack with a shaped base and a top section with beaded detail. The finish is original from the day it was made over 100 years ago.It has a rich golden brown patina that only years of time can achieve.The varnish is a little dry but a good polish will will help feed it. All the glass is original with beautiful waves and imperfections that you can see from differant angles.They are made of solid quartered oak boards with copper and black pattern straps along the sides and 2 matching pull knobs on each door.The interior is finished with a beautiful blond maple . Excellent condition! NOW S THE COOL PART .... The doors are self closing.... They are made with a spring loaded, gear driven mechinism, that rolls the door back and out of the way when opened. T are many patents marked on this bookcase to protect this feature. We photographed the patents as you can see they are from many countrys. 3 of the 5 stacks have the black label on the inside back from Fred Macey.
