Offered for sale is an original US half-sheet poster for the 1967 film "The Graduate." "This is Benjamin. He's a little worried about his future." The film was released in 1967. Stars Dustin Hoffman with Anne Bancroft and Katherine Ross. Mike Nichols directed and received a Best Director Academy Award for his troubles. One of the more influential cinema excursions into "frank sexuality," bringing the sexual revolution into mass conciousness in the Summer of Love.

This is a US "half sheet" (22" by 28") US domestic release poster. This poster was issued in connection with a re-release of the movie, as it advertises Mike Nichols' best director Oscar win. It bears the National Screen Service identification number R72/171. I am not certain of the year of the re-release, but I believe it is 1972 based on the NSS number. This poster is not a reproduction or reprint or reprint of any kind. I purchased this poster in the 1970's and it has been carefully stored and preserved ever since.

The poster is folded, with one horizontal fold and one vertical fold. The poster is is excellent, very fine condition. The poster is printed on a heavy card stock and it retains bright colors and excellent paper quality. T is really not much to describe in the way of defects. The poster was never hung, so t are no holes at the corners. T is some general light wear along the edges, with some creases at the extreme corners. No tears, no holes, no pieces missing, no writing. At one point, some tape (four peices in total) was applied to the BACK of the poster along the fold lines, presumably as reinforcement (t are no tears w the tape was applied). The tape has long since fallen off, but t are yellow stains from the tape. These are visible only on the back of the poster, and do not bleed through to the front. The poster has not been backed or mounted.

's some information and commentary about the film courtesy of the IMDb:

Ben has recently graduated college, with his parents now expecting great things from him. At his "Homecoming" party, Mrs. Robinson, the wife of his father's business partner, has Ben drive her home, which leads to an affair between the two. The affair eventually ends, but comes back to haunt him when he finds himself falling for Elaine, Mrs. Robinson's daughter.

The action is mainly seen through the eyes of Benjamin Braddock, a confused twenty-one year old, who is worried about his future but who does not simply want to follow the commercial path of his affluent family and their friends. His life becomes complicated when he is embroiled in an affair with an older woman, Mrs. Robinson, the wife of his father's business partner. It becomes impossible when he falls in love with Mrs. Robinson's daughter, Elaine.

"The Graduate" was a landmark film for American cinema and the decade in which it was released, sharing the same themes that Benjamin experiences throughout the film. Most of American cinema was very conventional up until the 60's. Nothing extremely scandalous was shown in a film, and many serious topics were not widely addressed through cinema...yet. "The Graduate" is the perfect mix of old and new. It's the 'bridge' that separates the standard American films from the more experimental ones that would emerge all throughout the 1970's.
The same can be said for the decade of the 1960's. America lost its innocence the day Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963. For the next five years, the country went through a spiral of events that led to the sexual revol...
