This is "THE H-BOMB AND YOU", a 1955 giveaway comic by the DEFENCE DEPARTMENt and your LOCAL OFFICE OF CIVIL DEFENCE. The comic is TOTAL FEAR-MONGERING and all about about being PREPARED IN CASE OF A NUCLEAR ATTACK by HYDROGEN BOMBS from Russia. A teacher has shown a film about the destructive force of an H-BOMB and discussing CIVIL DEFENCE with the class. WHen a kid asks if everyone will be anhialated by an atomic blast she calms him down and tell shim he'll only be horribly maimed and disfigured and not to worry - ok she does calm him down by telling him that it isn't necessarily true. She explains that all new weapons seem frightening at first but rumors scarce most people. TNT was new at one time as were airplanes in WW1 and the German V-2 rockets that buzzed England (Buzz Bombs) back in WW2. Rumors made people more frightened than they had to be. A class is visited by a representative of their local civil defence office. He explains all about the DESTRUCTION OF AN H-BOMB and how only an area of 3 miles in radius rom the epicenter of the blast will be TOTALLY ANNIHILATED while out to 7 miles t will be HEAVY DAMAGE and from 7-10 miles LIGHT DAMAGE - NEVERMIND THE RADIATION which he BARELY MENTIONS in passing!!
