Eliot, Charles (Ed): The Harvard Classics. New York: P.F. Collier & Sons, (1909). No other dates as usual. Octavo, 8" x 5.25", a slightly smaller format than our other current listing for this set. 50 volumes plus the 51st Lectures volume. Missing only the slim little Reader's Guide. Bound in charcoal grey cloth; top edges gilt. Thin, semi-flexible boards variety. The one and only! Everyone who ever said or wrote anything of lasting value is ! An education unto itself! Condition is G+: Contents clean, bindings solid, endpapers clean. NO sign of former owner. Covers and spines clean and unmarred. HOWEVER , the board edges are on the brittle side, showing many diverse & scattered chips and nits along the edges throughout the set. Tips rubbed & chipped. Spines are uniformly very good-looking from any distance; the set looks very nice on the shelf. But for some reason volumes 13 through 25 show more in the way of tiny chips at the heads of the spines. Top edge gilt has uniformly faded somewhat. Mnay of the volumes show little if anything in the way of chips or faults. This set is IDEAL for the reader who is looking for a complete set of Harvard Classics without the dire necessity of spending MUCHO DINERO on a fine, premium-quality set...the vast majority of the faults are hidden on the outer edges of the boards w they're invisible on the shelf! IDEAL for a college student! The set weighs in at 51 pounds, plus 2 boxes and packing material; winning bidder please add $21.00 secure Media shipping in USA. Canada extra, please inquire! Thanks for looking!
