This is " Portrait of Innocence" manufactured in 1983 By Marty. It is a discontinued/retired item that is no longer in production. This piece if from my mothers estate. Unfortunately & sadly, she was sick for a long time & during her illness she dilligently tried to keep this & other items in her home dust free. While doing this she somehow chipped the poor baby elephant's toe & a small spot on his spine . Well, she knew she did this & must have taken this piece to someone in her community & had touch ups done to the spots. Up close you can notice the imperfections but from afar they are hardly noticeable.(pictures below). This piece is being sold "AS IS"!!! I did not know much about this piece so I called Marty industries. I asked about repairs and they don't do them but the rep did say t are people out t that do. The person I spoke to said that they believed that it was the first or one of the first pieces in the elephant line to be made. If it was in perfect condition it would go for over a $1000.00 to a serious collector. Since this pc is no longer in production and probably not available in many stores, the representative that I spoke to said that even if it is not in perfect condition it should still pull in a nice price. It is truly a Highly sought after piece that is very valuable. The rep stated that t are people out t in the ceramics industry that would be able to fix anything. It is from a smoke free home enviroment. This piece is just adorable and cuddly looking. It measures approximately 7.5" tall and 6.5" wide. It weighs approximately 5-6lbs. From the trunk to the tail(flat surface )it's 14"long. It is in great condition. Serious Collectors know that this and other pieces are going for hundreds of dollars. Thias piece was the original model is the elephant that started it all. It is a little more rare. During the early 1980's Martha Carey designed a series of young animals that she named "Portraits of Innocence". One of them was an elephant, item 2104. At that time, none of the animals had names or stories. They were just called "2105 Colt" or"2108 Seal" or "2109 Fawn" or... "2104 Elephant", etc. Well, "2104 Elephant" was so popular that Martha designed a second elephant 2111 that was added to "Portraits of Innocence" ,(New items were introduced every six months). Because t were now 2 elephants in the collection, we began referring to them as "2104 The Sitter" and "2111 The Recliner".
