THE LAST SAMURAI HAND MADE TEMPERED CARBON STEEL KATANA SWORD
This sword is modeled exactly like the sword used in the final battle in the Last Samurai. The tsuba is hand made and the characters on the blade have been engraved into the blade. Not like other cheap replicas which uses stickers that can be scratched off.
The Samurai's desire for a tougher and stronger blade gave way to the curved blade design which we still have today. This blade has a groove running down each side. Commonly known as a "blood groove" on knives and a "fuller" on swords. This feature is important for two reason. 1. It lightens the blade making the sword easier to wield. A non fuller blade can be up to 35% heavier than a fuller blade. 2. It makes the blade stiffer and more durable because it creates two spines. One on each side of the fuller. This blade was hand made by a master sword smith. Hand tempered in the old ways. Each blade has been heated and pounded into shaped from raw steel. This process takes a long time it shows on the blade. This sword blade was made from hi carbon steel. Only Carbon steel can be used during the folding process give you that balance between brittle and soft metal. This blade is NOT a toy it is very sharp and can cut bamboo stalks like they were butterfingers. Please keep out of the hands of children. The tip of a Japanese sword is called the Zukuri.
The angle at which the tip of the blade is, is called Kissaki. T is short, medium, and long. Mune is the shape of the back of the blade. If it is rounded it is called MARU, if 3 sided it is called MITSU, and if 2 sided like a diamond it is called IHORI. This sword tip bas been tempered, the design can been easily seen. This blade has a grainy design on the side of it. The design is called HADA and it is a result of the way the blade was folded during forging. Hamon is the visual design of the tempered edge of the blade. It is a result of the cooling of the blade after forging.
This blade has Japanese Characters on the blade inspired by the hit movie The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise.
