Hello and Happy Holidays. This doll was hand made by Hanna Mendus unlike some of her other dolls which were produced by a company. Hanna was a relative of the Four Sister Dolls (The Original Dickens Dolls) which was also related to the Simpich Dolls. T were 4 sisters who lived by each other in Independence, MO. They made dolls in the 40's and 50's. From those 4 sisters one relative - Hanna moved to OK and continued the Dickens Dolls and another relative Jan Simpich moved to CO and started the Simpich Character Dolls. That is the story I was told by my relatives in Independence. This doll is called a Troll ( rhymes with doll). They were originally made by the Four Sisters and then Hanna continued these. Her Aunt actually wrote a little book about the Troll and dedicated it to Hanna. I have 3 of these up for auction with different colored jackets. These do not stand alone but are bendable and can be made to sit or hold on to something. They are just as cute as can be. I once saw a magazine display w these were used to decorate a chandeler. They had quite a few all hanging or holding on to the chandeler. They can be used to set on branches of the Christmas tree. I have several of these and have always enjoyed putting them out for the fall and Christmas season. But now I am thinning out my things and putting a lot of my"treasures" on ebay hoping someone else will give them a new home. He is approx 8" high (not including his hat) and in excellent condition as he has been stored in a china cabinet along with many of my other dolls.
